6 months

James turned 6 months on the 22nd.
He said momma AND dada right before he turned 6 months.
He eats Oatmeal once a day.
He takes three naps a day.
Sleeps through the night. Still with me. :) best cuddler ever.
He wears 9-12 month clothes.
Not sure on his weight and length. Will know after his appt.
He got his first pair of shoes. Little sperrys. sooo cute.
He fake coughs to get my attention.
He grabs anything and everything he can.
He is very much teething.
He can crawl backwards and is so close to actually crawling.
He now splashes in the tub.
He picks up on things sooo quickly these days. He thinks peekaboo is funny. His laugh is my favorite sound ever.

Christmas 2012

I'm sitting here in my house alone with my baby boy. It's bittersweet. My dad and grandmother have been here the past week and I just got home from dropping them off at the airport. I am sad not only because I will miss them, but James LOVED having them here. I feel so bad that he can't have them around all the time. We definitely are already trying to plan a trip home to see everyone again real soon.

James first Christmas was..well Christmas with a 6 month old. lol He didn't care one bit about his new toys. He had no clue what was going on. I think all of the new stuff put him into sensory overload. So many colors! lol I'm sure next year will be lots more fun! This year we had a big dinner on Christmas Eve and then opened gifts. Then we had Christmas morning breakfast and checked out what Santa had left. Christmas day, Hubs smoked a Turkey and my gran and I spent most of the day cooking and we had some friends over for dinner.

 me and my baby boy.

 First visit from Santa!

This is one of my favorite pics. He was so happy.

 A very rare family pic.

 Christmas morning.

My dad and James at Outback last night.

Gran and James at Cheesecake factory the day they got here.

Now that Christmas is over, the tree and decorations are put away and we are getting ready for New Years, the National Championship game with some friends, James' 6 month doc appt, and my spring semester of school.

5 months

James just turned 5 months on the 22nd. A blog I follow just did a catch up version of her monthly updates and I figured I should do the same while I'm not so far behind!

James weighs a little over 19 lbs and is wearing 6-9 month clothes. He is a chunky monkey. I love his wrists. They are bigger than his hands and its freaking adorable. All the shoes we had for him are size 1 and none of them fit because of his chubby little feet. <3 He hates things being on his feet anyway (like his momma) so he usually is barefoot and I have gotten a few comments from strangers (older ladies) about his feet being bare and then they quickly follow with "but I guess he likes that huh mom" as soon as they see the look on my face. lol It is just now getting cold here in Oklahoma, so it's the first time he is wearing jackets and little hats and omg its just too cute.

see!?

He wears size 3 diapers and has started the whole trying to turn over in the middle of being changed. It's quite funny to watch Hubs try to change him now. lol

Hmm the sleeping thing. Well, back when he was itty bitty, I would feed him sitting in bed and he would fall asleep and I would just let him sleep on me. Then as he grew it turned into him sleeping beside me. Now..he still co-sleeps. We are in the process of attempting the "cry it out" thing and I have to tell you. It's hard. I LOVE him sleeping beside me..but I know as he gets bigger I won't like it so much lol Plus I know I will sleep better with him out of the bed and into his crib. I know I have to suck it up and it will be worth it, but I just have a hard time listening to him scream like he's dying when I know that he wants to be held. :(
I have been lucky and he has generally always slept through the night. There was a little phase where he would wake up a few times, but that has slowly stopped. As soon as we moved into our new home. (Oct 11) I started James on a routine. bath, night feeding, bed. Now at five months, he sleeps from about 8-5:30 and then takes 1-2 hour naps at around10am, 1pm, and 5pm. He occasionally fights going to sleep, but usually he will fall asleep while nursing.

He is still exclusively breastfed. At 4 months, our Doc said we could introduce baby rice then food once he didn't hate the rice idea. Well he just wasn't into it yet...so I just backed off and continued bfing him and will until he is ready to try the food again. My initial goal was 6 months...but now that we are almost there, I see no reason to stop breastfeeding. It's easy for us and it's what works, so we will continue for now.

He is already making so many noises. I think he will be saying actual words in no time.
He rolled over back when he was about 3 months old. He could even pull up on our hands to stand up..I'm not kidding. Now he rolls all the time. If you turn your back he would be across the living room from rolling. lol He almost has crawling down. He seems to know the motions, but isn't quite strong enough to do them all together so that he can move. Again, he will be crawling in to time. He can't quite sit by himself, but he can do the tripod sit.

He loves his einstein bouncer. We introduced him to it at 4 months and at around his 5 month mark he started actually bouncing in it, where before he would just sit in it and play. For Christmas we got him a walker. I'm excited to see him try it out. He LOVES bath time still. As soon as he can sit, I'm sure he's going to love to get out of the bath seat and actually sit in the big tub. He loves the water. He just started splashing. He likes looking at fish. We took him to the aquarium a while back and to be so young, he paid attention to the fish. He especially liked the little turtles. We got a fish tank about a week ago and he just stares at it. I can't wait to take him back to the aquarium and the ZOO!
He likes it when I sing. I sing him "Jingle Bells" lately and he just gets the biggest smile. He also likes the ABCs song and likes patty cake. We have found that the bumbo seat is a life saver. I know there was a safety recall, but we do not leave him anywhere where he could fall out.. It is most useful while eating out. He will sit in it the whole time we eat instead of someone having to hold him like we did before. He loves Sophie. (the giraffe) He has tons of drool and chews on anything he can reach..so teeth are on their way I'm guessing. He thinks it's hilarious when we pretend gag because of his foot "stinking" or while changing his poopy diaper. His laugh is the sweetest, most precious thing I've ever heard. He smiles at anyone who looks his way while we are out in public. Everyone loves it. He is such a flirt. lol

that's all I can think of right now...but I'm gonna try my best to keep up with the updates from now on.

randomness like always

Something about this time of year just makes me feel all happy and warm inside. Thanksgiving is a week from today! Hub's only duty is the turkey. I'm going to attempt the rest. I plan on making dressing, mac-n-cheese, green beans, eggs (for hubs), creamed corn, and cresant rolls. oh and banana pudding for desert. I wanna actually set our table and have all the food on it for our first Thanksgiving dinner in our new house. James has a cute little first Thanksgiving outfit that he is barely going to fit into, but he can wear it for at least dinner! lol He is growing sooo fast. I tear up every now and then when I realize I only have my baby for a little while. He will be grown before we know it. I am trying my hardest to treasure every second with my little man. That being said, I am excited about making the holidays extra special for him. I want him to feel the way I did when I was younger about the holidays. We may have put up our Christmas tree last night. no shame! lol We are a little excited about having a house to decorate this year. It's fun picking out each ornament that will be on our tree for the years to come. I really can't wait to add the ones our children will make :) We have stockings that I LOVE, but are still on the search for stocking hangers. I'm also looking for inspirations for decorating our mantel. Hubs even wants to put lights on the outside of our house. Don't worry, we won't be those people that leave them up. lol Oh, another first this year for us, Christmas cards. With no other than James on them, of course! I found some cute ideas on Pinterest and can't wait to take the pictures!

The house is coming along quite nicely. While Hubs was off the past few days we finally finished unpacking everything and cleaned and organized the garage. I love the feeling of being organized. We got metal shelves for the garage to organize all the rubber maid containers. There is so much more room  out there now. Up next on the todo list are James' room and the guest bedroom...because I am expecting some guests in the next month or so. :) (my dad and gran) We are still keeping the monster theme in James' room, but I found a lighter grey for the walls. I am also adding a chalkboard section on one of the walls. I also am finally gonna print/ create some wall art for his room. I think I wanna do a collage wall of random artwork and things. I have no idea what I'm doing in the guest bedroom yet, I just can't wait to see it come together. James' bathroom is red at the moment. I think I've decided to paint it a shade of blue and do fish/ocean theme in there.

Ah! I have so many other thoughts running around in my head. Gonna just make a list to see them all laid out.
-I want to start James' baby book. I think I'm doing more of a smash-type book than a traditional baby book. I think it will neater to look at when he's older.
- I need to print TONS of pictures for the book and for picture frames for the house. The longer I wait, the more pics I need to print.
-I need to figure out what we are doing for Christmas presents for our families.
- We need chairs for our dining room table. Right now we only have a bench on one side.
- I need to get more candles for the house. Cinnamon ones for Nov and Dec.
- need to start ordering gifts online this week.

ok, need to stop procrastinating. I wanna give the house a good cleaning and have dinner ready when hubs gets home. He deserves it. :)

0 months

I know this is a little late, but I've decided I want to do the monthly updates. James will be 4 months in a few days, so I only have a few months to make up. :)

 2 days old

James was born on June 22 at 10:23 am
He weighed 7lbs 15 ounces & was 21 inches long.
He was born with lots of hair.
He wore newborn diapers for about the first 2 weeks.
He wore newborn size clothes.
My favorite things for him to wear were the long gowns..esp the one the hospital put him in.
I think it was cuz that was the first thing he wore.

I was dead set on not giving him a paci, but he was given one while being circumcised and after I saw how it soothed him, I couldn't take it away.

We have tried multiple kinds, but he has to have the one they gave at the hospital.
Luckily, you can buy them at walmart and they are also the kind they use for the wubba nubs.
I loved every single thing he did. I would just stare at him for hours amazed that my body made him.
He is absolutely perfect.

The whole time I was pregnant, I KNEW a baby was coming, but I had no idea what to expect.
The moment he was put on my chest was a moment I'll never forget.
I remember holding his head with one hand and touching his chest with the other.
His skin was so soft and he was so warm.
He was real.
He was an actual human being.
I was changed in that moment.
I had a purpose.
He was my responsibility.

The first day or two he was alive all he wanted to do was sleep.
He was not interesting in trying to eat at all.
We tried undressing him and messing with him to get him to wake up and eat, but he wasn't having it.
As soon as he was handed to me to try to feed him, he fell asleep again.
The third day he showed interest and the breast feeding journey started.
Not gonna lie..it sucked the first few days.
It hurt. I was tired. I got engorged. it hurt.
We fought through those rough few days and have been successfully since then and like I said, he'll be 4 months in a few days.
My original goal was 6th months, but after further research and thought, I am going to try to do it for longer.

It does nothing but benefit my baby, so why wouldn't i?
He has pretty much slept most of the night since day one.
I know..I'm lucky.
Our next kid will probably be terrible lol

updates: pic style

We finally got internet at our new house! I can't say I've missed tv or internet though. I got a lot more done! I've been cleaning and unpacking like a mad woman! Still have TONS to do to get our home where we want it to be, but we're getting there! For example..we finally have bedroom furniture! I absolutely love it. It couldn't be more "us".

oh and hubs surprised me with an early bday gift. (the tv!) for when he is on night shift or in the field.
I'm spoiled. I admit it. lol

I plan on doing something like this over our bed.

we are slowly transitioning James into his crib. I have loved co-sleeping, but I think it's time to make the change while we still can...cuz we can't have all of our kids sleeping with us one day. lol

now just enjoy some cuteness. :)

He adores his daddy...and I adore that. (:
